How to Map a Marketing Automation Workflow

The mistake most people make is building in the tool first. Map the workflow on paper, and the build becomes simple.

The four building blocks

  • Trigger: what starts it (a form submission, a tag, a date).
  • Action: what happens (send email, add tag, notify).
  • Condition: the "if" that branches the path.
  • Result: the outcome you actually want.

Map it as a sentence

"When a visitor fills the contact form (trigger), add them to the CRM and notify sales (action); if no reply in 3 days (condition), send a nudge (action) so the lead is not lost (result)."

Test before you trust

Run a real example through the workflow and confirm every step fires. Then document it so your team can maintain it.
